July—Peachland, B.C.

July—Peachland, B.C.

I stopped in Peachland for what I thought would be a brief break just to grab some water and snacks and ended up spending the afternoon walking along the water. It's a beautiful strip of quaint shops and boats coming and going.

At one point, I spotted the tree featured in the calendar this month. It was full and round and it's leaves were so green in places they were nearly blue.

I found a bench opposite it and busted out my plein air kit and got to work. I don't usually paint in such public spaces with so many people milling about, but the added energy was a nice change of pace. I even had a few people come up and chat with me while painting which is always a bit nerve-wracking because they're seeing a piece of work in its very early stages. I've gotten more accustomed to it over time, but that thought always pops up in my head whenever it happens.

The real highlight, though, was the geese! So many of them crowded around the bench, looking for food or serving me their best angles for a portrait. Sadly, I don't paint birds!

It was a lovely, slow afternoon I wanted to capture with the hope we all have the same vibe this month.
