Commissioning a Painting - FAQs

Commissioning a Painting - FAQs

I love painting custom paintings for collectors! Here are some of the most frequent questions I get regarding the process. Still have a few Q's that aren't answered here? Shoot me an email.

I don't have one image that is exactly what I want. Are you able to combine different elements of what I love from different photos into one awesome work of art?

Of course, that's the joy of creating a custom painting! We can play with colours, composition, scale... I'm definitely open to any ideas within the scope of my style and subject matters I paint.

Will you paint my grandma or my dog?

There are lots of great artists who do portraits, but that's not something I paint. Please take a look at my gallery or instagram account to get a sense of my painting style.

How do I figure out what size painting I need?

The easiest way to find the ideal sized painting is to measure your space and tape the dimensions of the painting you're considering with painters tape. I'm happy to provide some feedback on the size if you send along the photos. Alternatively, if you're local to the Edmonton area, I can always come by for a (free) in-home consult to chat about your space and ideas for your painting.

Will you create an initial sketch of the commission for me?

No. My process is quite intuitive, therefore creating a sketch to adhere to doesn't allow me to do my best work. However, before starting a painting, we chat about important details to include in the piece, the overall composition, colours and other paintings of mine that you like. All of this information combined allows me to bring our vision to life.

How much will it be to ship my painting?

It depends on the size and where it's being shipped to. There are lots of options. Send me an e-mail and I can provide a quote.

Local pick-up for original paintings: Edmonton, Alberta. We can arrange for delivery for any larger paintings.

Can I request changes to my commissioned painting?

The commission process is iterative and when I send along progress photos, we can chat about any changes (colours, small composition changes). When the painting is complete, there is another opportunity to make small changes before the painting is varnished. Once the painting is approved, signed and varnished, there can be no changes.

I want a painting commissioned as a gift - can you paint it in time?

Potentially! It depends on a number of factors (my commission schedule, the size and complexity of the painting). Please include the date you need it by in your initial request and I'll do my best to fit it in.

Do you accept refunds or returns?

No refunds or exchanges on commissioned paintings unless the item is damaged in shipping. (must show proof of damage)
